This simple recipe is often prepared as a snack for kids during winter.
It is a poor dish, born during the 1930’s when food was not much available and mothers still had to find a way to create a poor but tasty snack for the children.
Nowadays, the war times have passed, but the fried dough
has remained a tradition.
This is the original recipe.
These are the ingredients to prepare this recipe:
200 gr. Flour
30 gr. Vegetable Seeds Oil
3 tbsp Sugar
1 Large Egg
1 Grated Lemon Peel
50 gr. Milk
5 gr. Baking Powder
3 tbsp Powdered Sugar
2 tbsp Cinnamon Powder
To prepare this recipe:
1.- Take a large bowl, and pour the flour in it.
2.- Add the sugar and the grated lemon peel, then, for last, add the baking powder.
3.- Start to pour the vegetable oil in it and begin to knead.
4.- Add the large egg and the milk and continue to knead until the dough is smooth.
5.- Cover the bowl using cling film and put to rest in a warm place for 2 hours.
5.- Once the dough has raised, pour 500 gr. Of vegetable seeds oil in a pot and put over high heat.
6.- Take a handful of dough, press it in your hand in a gesture just the same as closing your fist, and a bubble of dough should come out of the space between your index and thumb.
7.- Use the other index to push that tiny sphere of dough into the hot oil.
8.- The dough should deep-fry and swell into a perfect sphere.
9.- Once it turns golden brown you can remove it from the oil and place it on a dish covered with a paper tissue to remove the excess oil.
10.- Mix the powdered sugar with the cinnamon powder, and spread it all over these fried dough spheres.
