Ciambella is a cake made with a few ingredients, shaped like a giant donut.

This recipe features almonds and chocolate as well as vanilla.

In Italy this dessert is made as a gift for guests, and it’s served with coffee.


The ingredients to prepare this recipe are:

  • 350 gr. Flour
  • 100 gr. Almond Flour
  • 4 Medium Sized Eggs
  • 100 gr. Milk
  • 1 Vanilla Bean
  • 200 gr. Butter
  • 220 gr. Sugar (100 white sugar, 120 brown Sugar)
  • 2 tbsp Chocolate Chips
  • 10 gr. Baking Powder
  • 30 gr Grated Orange Peel
  • Equipment Needed:

  • Donut Cake Mold


  • To prepare this dessert:

    Start by checking on the ingredients temperature, all of our ingredients need to be at room temperature.

    1.- Mix the butter with the white sugar.

    2.- Mix until the resulting mixture is smooth, then add the milk and the almond flour.

    3.- Now can add the baking powder.

    4.- Continue to stir, while adding half of the chocolate chips.

    5.- Now it’s time to add the eggs.

    Add one egg at the time, carefully mixing until the egg is absorbed before adding the next one.

    6.- Add the flour, a bit at the time and the dough will start to knead.

    7.- Once you are done mixing the cake dough, add the remaining cholate chips and the brown sugar.

    8.- Half teaspoon of salt is recommended as it will help you get a softer cake.

    9.- To add the vanilla, we need to cut it in half, and then scrape the vanilla seeds in the dough using a knife.

    10.- Also add the grated orange peel to enhance the flavor.

    11.- Spread some butter in the cake mold, pour the cake dough in it, and let it set for a minute to get a even surface, then cook in preheated oven at 160°C for 40 minutes.

    Use a toothpick and stick it into the cake to check if the cake is cooked well, as the dough should not stick to it.

    12.- Allow the Ciambella to cool down before taking it off the cake mold to prevent the Ciambella from breaking.

    13.- Serve this dessert cold, sliced with coffee and chocolate, and garnish with powdered sugar.

    50 gr. Of the flour can be switched with cocoa powder to get a chocolate Ciambella.

    Also add more chocolate chips if you prepare the chocolate variation.
