Meatballs are a pillar in Italian cuisine, they’re made differently throughout Italian regions, but the main recipe is the one we are preparing today made with tomato sauce and dipping the meatballs in it after deep frying them, coated in flour.

The ingredients for this recipe are:

  • 600 gr. Beef Minced Meat
  • 200 gr. Breadcrumbs
  • 80 gr. Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 5 gr. Salt
  • 3 Eggs
  • 200 gr. Flour
  • 600 gr. Tomato Puree
  • 2 Garlic Cloves
  • 2 basil leaves
  • ½ Red Onion

  • To prepare this recipe:

    This is a very simple recipe, since it has just a few steps to follow, but we first have to start with the tomato sauce.

    1.- Finely chop the garlic and onion together, we need them to be as tiny as possible.

    2.- Heat the olive oil in the pot, over low heat, and place the onion and garlic mix in it.

    3.- Add one basil leaf, and add the tomato puree before the onion and garlic start to turn brown.

    4.- Simmer over low heat, stirring once in a while to prevent the sauce from sticking to the bottom.

    5.- The first step to prepare the meatballs is to mix the minced meat with the parmesan and the breadcrumbs.

    6.- Add the egg one at the time until you get the right consistency.

    7.- Then we can finally add the salt.

    8.- Mix everything together well, the result should be a thick meat dough. If the dough results to hard, add another egg.

    9.- Pour the flour inside a large tray, and then start to shape each meatball with your hands, forming a small sphere.

    10.- Place each meatball in the flour.

    11.- In the meanwhile, pour the vegetable seeds oil in a pot, and heat it up on medium heat.

    12.- Shake the meatballs and cover them in flour, then, deep-fry for a minute.

    13.- Once they’re ready, place them on paper tissue to remove the excess oil, and place them into the boiling tomato sauce. From this point, let them cook for 15 minutes.

    14.- Season the tomato sauce with salt and pepper, then add the same amount of sugar to get rid of the sour flavor of the tomato.

    You have the choice to add the spaghetti to this recipe.

    Meatballs can also be grilled or cooked braised, without the tomato sauce.
